Policies and Procedures
Full details of the curriculum and our policies and procedures
are listed below, please click on the link below which will
take you to the relevant procedure:
Emergency Procedure
Parents should be aware that should an accident or emergency
occur while their child is at the pre-school the following
procedure will take place:
- A qualified first aider will stay with the injured child
- A staff member will telephone for an ambulance and then
the child's parents
- Other staff members will take care of the other children
- If the ambulance arrives before the parents the staff
member who has been looking after the child will accompany
him/her to hospital
- A "consent to medical treatment form" will
be taken to hospital
If
the parents cannot be found, it may be necessary to ask
the police to trace them
Equal Opportunities Statement
We will treat the children in our care with equal concern
and regard to their religious persuasion,
racial origin, cultural background, gender, special needs
or disability.
Discipline Statement
In creating a well prepared environment with adequate supervision,
we help to develop the child's sense of right and wrong. Naturally,
all children have "phases" of unacceptable behaviour.
This will be dealt with by explaining to the child why such
behaviour is not permitted. Teachers are trained to be consistent
in dealing with such situations.
Special Educational Needs Procedure
Children who have a general or specific learning difficulty
are welcome at St Tudy Pre-school. We have experience of children
with special needs and liaise with all the relevent professionals.
However, provision of a keyworker for the child may be required.
Medicines, Sick Children
If a child has to be given medicines at the Pre-school the
following procedure is necessary;
- Parent has given prior written permission to administer
any medicine
- Medicines are stored in their original containers, clearly
labelled and inaccessible to children
- Medicines are not normally administered unless they have
been prescribed for that child by a doctor
- Written records are kept of all medicines administered
to children, and parent sign the record to acknowledge entry
(records kept in emergency file with other emergency documents
relating to that child)
- If the administration of prescription medicines requires
technical/medical knowledge then the individual training
is provided for staff from a qualified health professional.
Training is specific to the individual child concerned.
If you consider your child to be unable to attend the Pre-school
due to illness, please telephone to let us know as early as
possible as some illnesses are "notifiable" and
it is useful to be aware of what is wrong with your child.
Sick child policy, sickness and diarrhoea
If your child has suffered from sickness and/or diarrhoea
PLEASE keep them at home for at least 24
hours before they return to the Pre-school.
If a child becomes ill whilst at the Pre-school it might
be necessary to send them home especially if they are thought
to be infectious! Please make sure that the emergency contact
numbers that you give us are correct and up to date.
Left behind children
If a child has not been collected a reasonable time after
the end of the session we will work through the emergency
contact numbers given to us by parents when the child starts
at the Pre-school. It is therefore essential that these numbers
are correct and current and if a mobile number is given please
make sure the mobile is turned on if that is the way to contact
you at a given time.
We keep at least 3 numbers on record for a given child (mobile,
home and work number plus an alternative contact to the parent/carer)
but if we cannot contact anybody on these numbers then we
will phone the local police to ask advice and be guided by
them as to what course of action to take. Please make sure
that all the contact numbers that you give us are correct.
If you are going to be at a different number for the sessions
that your child is at the Pre-school then please inform a
member of staff at the beginning of that session.
Lost child
If a child goes missing from the Pre-school or on an outing
from the Pre-school the police would be called immediately.
A note would be made of all the circumstances surrounding
the disappearance in order to help the police with their investigations
who will then be able to advise
about informing the parents/guardians of the child and the
next steps to be followed.
Child protection policy
We
are obliged to report to Social Services any incident where
we consider a child may have been abused or neglected. This
may be done without informing the parent/guardian.
