What's On ...
Newsletter - 12th January 2010
I would like to start by saying Happy New Year to you all
from everyone at St Tudy Pre-school!
Change of planning and layout of the pre-school
A New Year and a perfect time for change. Over the next few
weeks you will notice that the layout of the activities on
offer will be changing to allow the children ‘free choice’
access to the facilities on offer. This is all part of the
EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) that was introduced, to
adapt how we help to take our children’s learning forward.
All planning that is now followed through is adapted through
your child’s individual interests, which makes the ‘play’
more interesting which in return moves their learning forward.
The EYFS is all about the child as an individual and working
closely with Parent/Carers to help promote this.
Planning will be displayed on a daily basis so you can see
how the planning promotes their learning. We are planning
on having an evening so you can talk to your child’s
‘Key Person’ about their learning and share in
their future planning. Date to be confirmed.
Topic
This term we are looking at the topic Me, Myself
and I.
The idea surrounding this is that children first recognize
themselves as ‘Me’ before they are able to move
their thoughts forward to identify themselves as ‘Myself’
to then leading onto them introducing themselves as ‘I’.
We are asking if it would be possible for you to provide
4-5 photographs of your child, where one is of them as a baby
and other being with people /animals/comforts which are important
to them. Can you also please indicate who is in the photographs
and the age that your child was at the time the photo was
taken. These photographs will be used as part of our continuous
provision within the setting and shared on a daily basis with
all other children. We are planning on laminating these photos
to keep them safe in case you prefer to send photocopies and
will return them at the end of our topic.
This topic is based around each child’s individual
interest, which will be used to move their learning forward.
It would be appreciated if could indicate below any particular
interests your child has at home i.e. favorite toys/books/characters
as from past experience children’s interest change continuously
and are often different in the home to what they are in pre-school.
Dates that we don’t have the village hall

Parent/Carers helper Rota
We are so very grateful to all the parents/carers who have
helped over the past year and still would like your help throughout
2010. However due to legal legislation we have decided to
change how we would like you to be involved. We feel as a
setting it would be nice for you to be directly involved with
the child’s learning through play and helping out with
the pre-school necessities. We appreciate that not all parents
are able to help due to other commitment so if you are still
interested in being involved then please place your name on
the helper sheet which is next to the signing in and out book,
so a list can be drawn up.
Healthy Eating
We are currently trying to follow and promote the ‘Healthy
Eating’ campaign which all settings and schools follow.
Snacks that are prepared are fresh and health which all the
children thoroughly enjoy. Can we please encourage you all
to help with this by reducing the amount of sugary food you
give to your child for pack lunch. Children are having a large
amount of chocolate, sweets and crisps which seems to be defeating
what we as a setting are trying to promote. Your help in this
area would be very much appreciated.
Thank you for your continuous support
Sharon Crossley
Pre-school supervisor
General Information:
Clothing
Now that the weather is cooler and wetter, please could
you ensure that your children come to Pre-school with coats
and wellies and waterproof trousers if they have them. We
do have some pairs of both but not enough for all.
Childcare Vouchers
We are looking into being able to accept employers’
childcare vouchers. If you work somewhere where they run such
a scheme and you would like us to be able to accept them please
speak either to Liz Hustwayte or Susie Ballerstedt.
Needs and Wants
We very much want to create a cosy corner in the pre-school
setting. If any of you happen to have any spare blankets,
sheets, duvets, cushions, etc, they would be very gratefully
received!
Also we are always after art and craft bits and bits for
junk modelling. Don’t tip it, donate it!!
Baby and Toddler Session
Our Baby and Toddler session runs on a Tuesday morning
from 9:15am – 11:30am. If you are stuck for something
to do when there is no pre-school why not come along and have
a cup of tea and a natter whilst your children play. Price
£2.00 per child or £2.50 if 2 or more children.
Pre-school children are very welcome.
If you have any ideas or suggestions for activities or trips
out next term, please email
us or speak to us about your ideas. We would love to hear
from you!
